Governors Walk

Governors Walk is our beautifully located Retirement home nestled in the New Edinburgh community, right across from Stanley Park - known for its lush gardens and home to the Governor General’s residence Rideau Hall.

At Governors Walk, we bring a new perspective to senior living, allowing families and residents to personalize their care to fit their needs. We promote an active lifestyle for residents focusing on our four pillars:

Compassion | Dignity | Security | Respect

Governors Walk Sensory Murals

The theme for our sensory murals is "Feel at Home," we want our Metta Memory residents to feel like they are in their own kitchen or living room from a time period they could remember and can spark positive memories. Based on our resident population, we have tried to design a home that would be familiar to them, which is why we based the decor around the 1950s and 1960s.

Each sensory mural is thoughtfully designed with the help of Sensory-Scapes and has activities and therapy programming that can be used to help residents with cognitive impairments. Our Metta Memory staff is trained to properly use the sensory scapes and provide families with training to help their loved ones be more interactive.

Kitchen Sensory Mural

For our residents, the kitchen/dining area in a home holds fond memories of their lives with their families. We wanted to create a space where both the men and women felt at home and comfortable in the space. We have included pots and pans as well as a kitchen table for residents to congregate at and do some simple baking. There are a lot of activities that residents can partake in by themselves or with the Metta Memory staff.

Baby Room Sensory Mural

Becoming a parent is a memory that a lot of Alzheimer's and dementia patients hold onto. We have included the image of the crib and toys to create the sense of a baby bedroom. The residents can play with some children's toys and there are nursery books they can also flip through and read or look at. This is a great place for families to bring up old childhood memories, or bring in childhood photographs as a way to steer the conversation with their loved ones.

Potting Shed Sensory Mural

Our potting shed is the perfect "outdoor" escape for our residents to enjoy some spring and summer activities all year round. This area is designed to conduct not only gardening activities but all arts and craft activities can be held in this area. This area is located right beside the porch mural to create the ambiance of being outdoors. It will also have aromatherapy and noise to provide multi-sensory stimulation for residents.

Front Porch Sensory Mural

This sunny porch with a view is more than just a breathtaking view of the Ottawa landscape; but also includes sounds of nature and aromatherapy that create the feeling of being outdoors. This porch creates the feeling of summer and being outside, which has been shown to stimulate receptors in the brain that trigger the same endorphins released when we are actually outside. It's a great way for residents to feel as though they outdoors and exploring while being safe in their neighbourhood.
